What is Shetland Youth Voice?
Shetland Youth Voice is dedicated to empowering young people across the Island. This project aims to engage young people in meaningful participation within their communities, fostering leadership, advocacy, and positive change. By creating a platform where young individuals can express their ideas, opinions, and concerns, the project ensures that their voices are heard and valued in all aspects of community life.
Shetland Youth Voice is committed to actively involving young people in decision-making processes that impact their lives and futures. The initiative seeks to cultivate a generation of informed, engaged, and empowered young people who can contribute to a stronger, more inclusive Shetland. By focusing on leadership development, community engagement, and advocacy, the project aims to equip young people with the skills and confidence needed to take on leadership roles and advocate for their peers.
Who are the Members of Shetland Youth Voice?
Shetland Youth Voice Project is structured to ensure effective representation, active participation, and meaningful impact. At its core, the project comprises general members, executive members, and a leadership team. General members, aged 12-25, represent all secondary schools and voluntary organisations across Shetland, meeting quarterly to discuss key issues and participate in themed activities. From this group, a select number of young people form an executive panel, meeting more frequently to drive forward the initiatives and actions decided in general meetings. The leadership team, including a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, is elected annually to guide the project and represent youth voices in interactions with local authorities and stakeholders. This inclusive structure ensures that a diverse range of young voices are heard and that leadership opportunities are available at multiple levels, fostering a culture of empowerment and engagement within the youth community.
